Darryl Matthews, Group Head of External Relations, Harrington Brooks
Mike Kane, Labour MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, will address the conference with a keynote speech about how his constituents in the local area are facing and coping with debt issues which can cause vulnerability.
Mike formerly headed up Movement for Change, the grassroots campaigning organisation that led campaigns on important issues ranging from access to fair credit to tackling domestic violence. He entered Parliament in 2014, going on to sit on the Treasury Select Committee and now serving as a Shadow International Development Minister. Mike is also part of the all party parliamentary group (APPG) on Debt and Personal Finance.
Matthew Cheetham has been CEO of the One Advice Group since 2007 and has overseen the group’s development through a change in regulator and from managing 15,000 overly indebted consumers to over 60,000 today. Matt has built up a senior team of customer centric experts that have steered the Group through this important period of change, working towards a vision which is to be one of the UK’s leading providers of personal insolvency and legal solutions and to bring sustainable financial wellbeing within the reach of our customers.
Tina Grainger, Senior Vulnerable Leader, Barclaycard
Tina joined Barclaycard in 2010 as a Senior Collections Operations Manager with a view to refreshing the collections approach and supporting customers in financial difficulty. Tina has also successfully introduced and led the internal specialist team managing vulnerable customers, which has been described as industry leading. Previously she has held senior roles at O2 and Vodafone in collections and customer services with a real passion to always drive & lead teams to have the customer at the heart of everything they do.
Yvonne MacDermid OBE, Chief Executive, Money Advice Scotland
Yvonne has been involved in credit and debt matters for 27 years. She has been Chief Executive of Money Advice Scotland since 1997 and is passionate about her work. She is also committed to working with government, regulators, and all parts of the credit and debt collection industries. A well respected author, Yvonne also broadcasts on national TV and radio. She is a regular speaker and Conference Chair. She is a non-Executive Board member of the Office of the Accountant in Bankruptcy, and a Board member of the Credit Services Association. In 2002, Yvonne received the OBE for services to disadvantaged communities, and at the Credit Today Awards in April 2013, was recognised with the Martin Williams Award for Contribution to the Credit Industry.
Dave Chapman is the Marston Group Client Services Director and Managing Director of Rossendales Limited.
Prior to joining the Marston Group in 2004, Dave was the Revenues Manager for Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, having worked in Local Government since 1985. In 2012/13, Dave was elected the President of the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (IRRV) the professional body for local government practitioners, becoming the first representative from the enforcement and debt collection professions to hold office. Dave is an elected member of the IRRV Council, Vice Chair of the IRRV Education and Membership Committee, Member of the Civil Enforcement Association and a panel member of the North West Discussion Forum which, as part of the Money Advice Liaison Group, aims to improve relationships between creditors, ancillary services and advisers. Most recently, Dave addressed the Labour Party Conference on Vulnerability and Enforcement (Brighton October 2015). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (FIRRV).
Laura Morrell works at Citizens Advice and has worked in the world of welfare support for over 20 years.
She has managed teams in Essex County Council’s social care services and now works as a specialist welfare benefits caseworker in Citizens Advice (Mid Lincolnshire). Laura supports vulnerable adults to maximise their income and access fair representation when challenging benefit decisions. Maximising income for vulnerable adults allows people to purchase care services and participate in their local economy whilst improving their mental health and wellbeing.
In addition to her specialist case work, Laura is also a national trainer for Citizens Advice and produces and delivers freelance training services to Local Authorities, Housing Associations, and the Voluntary sector on welfare support and welfare reform.
